Embracing the outdoors

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” We embrace the natural environment for children to play and learn, and to respect all the living things in our beautiful open spaces.

OUTDOOR PLAY EVERY DAY

Fremantle Early Learning Centre boasts a massive outdoor space for children to enjoy outdoor exercise and explorative nature play. Outdoor play has always been important to us.

We go by the scandanavian saying, “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”. Our outdoor policy and wet weather gear guarantee wonderful outdoor play opportunities, every day of the year.

One of our favourite sights is the children in their rainsuits enabling them to engage in outdoor exploration even on the wettest of days. With shady, breezy areas aplenty and a sunsmart policy strictly adhered to, children are kept safe from harmful UV rays and high temperatures too.

Collaborating to create our space

In 2019 landscape designer and early childhood expert, Kimberley Beasley led us on a collaborative project to revamp our outdoor areas. By observing children’s play, listening to their voices, and gathering their pictures, a number of their imaginative suggestions were transformed into a nature play paradise. Our outdoor spaces truly are a wonder. Rain or shine, the kids love playing outdoors at Fremantle Early Learning Centre.

Thriving in nature

We feel that in the outdoors, our children thrive in developing their sense of autonomy. Whether they’re caring for our chooks and bunny, growing herbs and vegetables, engaging in risk-taking in our purpose-built playground, or simply relaxing with a book under the Carob tree.

Our value for nature play transpires indoors too; we’re continually amazed by the learning opportunities that natural resources can offer whether used as props for role play, materials to investigate or props to develop those pre-literacy and numeracy skills.

We love FELC, and so glad we found you and made the choice in sending our son here from day one. You've helped (and continue to help) him grow, develop and learn so much in the time he's been at the centre, and I can't think you enough for everything you do. I feel like you are a second family to him, and in return us.
